The National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE) is a professional
organization of educators dedicated to quality services for persons with disabilities
through education and research. NCRE advocates up-to-date education and training
and the maintenance of professional standards in the field of rehabilitation.
Our organization was formed in 1955 and has evolved into the leading professional
association for rehabilitation educators in the 21st Century. NCRE has grown
to represent over 90 institutions of higher education and 600 individual members.
Membership is diverse and is composed of professional educators and researchers.
We offer two national conferences, a newsletter, a peer reviewed journal,
and a network of colleagues and resources.
The Council is the only national organization representing rehabilitation
education and research providing a forum where unified positions can be state
on issues involving training priorities, federal funding, and research activities
in our field. Administrators and practitioners from both private and public
service agencies are also members of NCRE. Elected representatives from the
ten Federal RSA Regions of the United States meet each year to deliberate
and discuss matters affecting training programs and services to persons with
disabilities.
Benefits of membership include national identification and recognition as a program or individual involved in the specialization training/research field of rehabilitation. Activities of the Council include communication with other educators/researchers on matters such as training/workshop opportunities, curriculum improvements, recruitment of students, coordination of research, professional standards, employment of graduates, and sources of funding. In addition, all members receive the NCRE Newsletter and legislative updates through periodic NCRE President Updates. Members also receive copies of the official quarterly journal of NCRE, Rehabilitation Education, and the NCRE Membership Directory are eligible for reduced rates at special NCRE conferences.
