Guidelines for Submitting a “Special Topics Issue” for Rehabilitation Education

Consistent with the NCRE Executive Board request, any person(s) wanting to submit a proposal for a special topics issue must provide a written proposal that is reviewed and approved by the Editor and the Executive Board. In preparing a proposal, authors will develop their proposals according to the following format:

  1. Provide a rationale supporting the need for this special topics issue and its relevance to rehabilitation education. If a special issue with this topic has been addressed in another rehabilitation journal indicate where, when, and how the proposed special topics issue is different from what has been published previously.
  2. Outline a list of potential paper topics (at least 5 or more) appropriate to the special issue theme that includes a brief description (a few sentences) of the focus of potential areas of interest. With regard to number of papers accepted for a special issue, there should be a minimum of at least 140 pages in Word text (double-spaced, 12-point font) or about five to six articles of moderate length. The guest editor(s) should make every attempt not to exceed more than 180 pages of text unless prior arrangement with the Journal Editor has been made and approved.
  3. Provide names and work addresses (including e-mail address) of the contact person(s) who will serve as Guest Editor(s) with a brief explanation of his/her experience as an editor or reviewer.
  4. Provide a list of names and contact information (e-mail, business address, telephone number) of potential external reviewers (outside of current Editorial Board members) who have particular expertise in the topic of interest and may be interested in serving as reviewers.

Authors wanting to submit proposals must be aware that the NCRE Executive Board has indicated that no more than one Special Topics Issue can be produced within a given publication year. Proposals will be reviewed by the Journal Editor and Executive Board members. All proposals must be received by September 30th. A final decision will be made within 30 days. It is expected that the proposal selected will be published in the fourth issue for the following publication year (October/November/December).

All proposals should be submitted to:
